In this dream I was fishing with my old friend in a river.
He hooked something! After big fight he pulled his catch up to find it was an enormous tadpole, bigger than many of the fish we would likely catch.
I expressed some concern about the size of whatever creature such a beast might turn into, but my friend reassured me that this type of tadpole would eventually turn into a toad much smaller than it.
But what we didn’t know was what also lurked in the water around our waders: another type of tadpole, much smaller than it’s toad cousins.
This tadpole was the actual monster. Because this type does not actually grow into an individual amphibian. Instead, it combines with other tadpoles of it’s kind. From there it, combines again. And again. And again. Getting bigger each time.
And it keeps doing it, until it is big enough to pull itself out of the river…
