The dog was not on a leash. I think I assumed there was somebody nearby who could claim the dog as theirs, so at first, I was not alarmed.

When the dog blocked an elevated truck from leaving the mini-mall parking lot I realized its owner was nowhere in sight. Perhaps it had no owner. Either way, it appeared that the creature was out on its own recognizance.
In no time, the beast had made its way to the bustling four way intersection at the corner. I could do nothing but watch as it sat patiently and waited at the red light, along with the traffic. Once the light turned green, it crossed the street in the crosswalk and disappeared into the suburbs.
If I didn’t know better, I’d say that dog was out on an errand.
